GOOD TO KNOW No tickets are needed and you are welcome to bring a picnic. The plaza sits just behind the Urban Light lamppost installation at the Wilshire entrance. Verified performers: 6 Beats on August 21, Janis Mann on August 28, Clayton Cameron Collective on September 4, the L.A. Jazz Treasure Award concert for Betty Bryant on September 11, The 17 Big Band on September 18 and Judy Wexler on September 25. LACMA describes the season as running into the autumn, so dates beyond September 25 are likely but were not yet posted when we checked.
Why it's worth your time
Thirty-five seasons in, this is the steadiest free live-music habit in the city, and it is one of the few that does not require a lawn chair reservation or a ticket queue. It also solves a real problem: it starts at 6, so you can hear a full set and still have an evening.
